Apply for the UNI-IAS Master of Science in Sustainability in Japan. The is a two-year programme, which aims to provide students with the knowledge skills and expertise for their engagement and contribution to solving challenges of sustainability. This interdisciplinary programme integrates methods and resources from the natural and social sciences, humanities in the quest to solve the real sustainability challenges facing our world today.
The programme is particularly intended for recent graduates and professionals who posses the passion for meaningfully contribution to the work of governments, civil society, the private sector, and/or the UN and other international organizations in the area of sustainability.

Scholarships provided through Japan Foundation for UNU (JFUNU)
- You will receive a JFUNU scholarship award offering a monthly allowance worth 120,000 JPY for living expenses for a maximum of 24 months.
- This offer will also grant you a full tuition fees are waiver for the entire duration for the scholarship
Scholarship through the Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB–JSP)
- This scholarship offer will cover the full tuition fees for the programme
- You will also receive a subsistence allowance including housing allowance, medical and accident insurance, books, and instrumental allowance worth JPY 147,000.
- Recipients for this programme will also receive coverage for an economy class airfare for the most direct route between their home country and Tokyo Narita International Airport.
UNU Rector’s Scholarship
- This scholarship offers monthly allowance worth 130,000 JPY to cover living expenses for a maximum of 24 months.
- The tuition fees however, will be covered by the donor of the selected applicant
Resona Bank Scholarship
- This scholarship offers a monthly allowance worth130,000 JPY to cover your living expenses for a maximum of 24 months.

Eligibility
Applicants for the Master of Science in Sustainability are required to have met the following requirements by the application deadline in order to be considered..
- You must have a strong interest in sustainability studies in general
- Applicants must demonstrate strong commitment to study and understand global issues
- You must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized university.
- Your Bachelor’s degree must have been offered in a field related to sustainability
- You must have achieved a GPA of 2.8 or above on a 4.0 scale
- Demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency with a minimum score requirements as below
- 600 on TOEFL – Paper-Based Testing (PBT) OR
- 100 on TOEFL – Internet-Based Testing (IBT) OR
- 7.0 on IELTS – Academic format
Application
Applicants for the scholarships must complete their enrolment in the UNU-IAS Master of Science in Sustainability programme in order to be considered.
There is no separate application form for the scholarships as it is a part of the online application for admission.
Interested applicants must provide necessary information and documents for the scholarship together with the required documents for admission to the master’s degree programme.
