UNDP Governance and Peacebuilding Internship Program

UNDP’s Flagship Portfolio aims to strengthen the ability of key institutions to address governance deficits and deliver people-centric services, as a contribution to peace and development in Sri Lanka. The portfolio intervenes across 3 inter-related service lines:

(1) Parliament and Independent Commissions;

(2) Rule of Law and Access to Justice (including transitional justice); and

(3) Public Sector and Local Governance. Promoting Reconciliation and Peacebuilding would be a cross-cutting thematic across these service lines. Therefore, UNDP is looking to hire an intern to support the implementation of the portfolio across the 3 service lines based on the immediate need

Duties and Responsibilities

The Intern will support the work of the Governance and Peacebuilding team, under the direct supervision of the Policy and Design Specialist for Governance and Peacebuilding.

The specific tasks are outlined below:

  • Support the M&E requirements of the team – undertake data collection exercises and data management on thematic areas based on the requirement and direction of the supervisor
  • Perform analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, draft reports presenting the results of the analysis in the required format
  • Conduct research on the thematic priority areas that will be determined by the supervisor
  • Contribute to the development of research reports and publications; policy position/discussion papers, and knowledge management products
  • Support the appraisal of ongoing project activities and progress reports (including through monitoring visits) and collect best practices and case studies which demonstrate qualitative and quantitative changes that have taken place
  • Provide any other support to the UNDP Governance and Peacebuilding cluster’s seminars, workshops, conferences, where applicable, as required by the Supervisor/s

Eligibility

  • Applicants for the internship programme must meet one of the following requirements:
  1. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  3. Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation
  • Degree in Development Studies, International Relations, Economics, Peace and Conflict Studies, Social Sciences or any other related field
  • Experiences and/or academic knowledge in the field of Data Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Knowledge Management, and/or Results-Based Management
  • Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills in English
  • Good IT competence and command of main office software programmes
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and a strong team working capacity
  • Willingness to travel to the field
  • The applicant must demonstrate the following qualities: Proactive, Team Player, Excellent writing skills, Quick learner, Good computer skills, Polite and outgoing.
