Apply for the University of Melbourne Graduate Research Scholarships 2023. The Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRS), and the Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarships provided by the Australian Commonwealth Government, are available to high-achieving domestic and international students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or Doctorate by Research degree
As a graduate researcher at the University of Melbourne , you can choose from any of the two above scholarships, and choose from a wide range of research themes and topics that fit field of interest. And you can also collaborate with experts from many disciplines across the University, all this through a PhD Program, or one of the many multidisciplinary research initiatives.
The stage of completion for your graduate research degree, you’ll receive training of the highest quality. You’ll have opportunities for industry collaboration. There are also several opportunities to go for a Joint PhD with one of the University international partners. Through these opportunities, you’ll gain valuable knowledge and experience. You’ll also broaden your networks and enhance your career prospects with a degree you can take anywhere in the world.
Like wise, all domestic students who receive admission to a Masters by Research or PhD program at the University of Melbourne in Australia will automatically receive a Research Training Program Scholarship (Fee Offset). Graduate Research Scholarships that provide a stipend as well as fee offset are awarded to domestic and international students based on academic merit.
Benefits
Successful Applicants will benefit from the following scholarships
Stipend and fee offset scholarships
- Full fee offset for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to four years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.
- Living allowance of $37,000 per year for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to 3.5 years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.
- The awarded living allowance may be indexed annually and includes limited paid sick, maternity and parenting leave.
- Relocation grant worth $2,000 for students moving from States or Territories other than Victoria or $3,000 for students moving from outside Australia.
- Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership for international students who require a student visa to study in Australia
Fee offset scholarships
- Full fee offset for up to two years for students undertaking a Masters by Research degree or up to four years for students undertaking a doctoral degree.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to fulfill the following criteria:
For Incoming International Students
- Applicants have applied for and meet the entry requirements for a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne
- To secure a place as a research graduate student, you will need to fulfill conditions including the following:
- To be eligible to apply for graduate research degrees, you’re normally required to have completed at least a four year Australian Bachelor degree or overseas equivalent and achieved an overall average of greater than 75% in the final year of the degree.
- You’re also normally required to have completed a research project/component that accounts for at least 25% of your year’s work at 4th year undergraduate or masters level.
- Some graduate schools also require a research proposal as part of your application.
- If you’ve completed an undergraduate degree in the last two years, where the degree was entirely taught and assessed in English, typically you’ll satisfy English language requirements
For Current Graduate/ Research Students
- Applicants must be be currently enrolled in a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne
- You must demonstrate a strong knowledge of English however, knowledge of French is an asset
Application
The deadlines and application procedures varies according to the following three categories of applicants as described below.
For incoming Applicants who are applying for a graduate research course, the deadline will correspond with the deadline of their course application
- New student who have applied for a graduate research course by the closing date for that course will be automatically considered for the Graduate Research Scholarships.
- In case you have accepted a graduate research course offer and deferred commencement in order to be reconsidered for a scholarship, you must submit an online application form by 31 October to be considered for a scholarship in the following year.
- Candidates who are currently enrolled in a graduate research course for which you seek a scholarship must submit an online application form by 31 October to be considered for a scholarship in the following year.
