The Fully Funded Commonwealth Professional Fellowships

Application are open for the Commonwealth Professional Fellowships in the UK. These scholarships are for intended for mid-career professionals from low and middle income Commonwealth countries. Successful applicants will spend between six weeks and three months at a selected UK Host organization working in their sector on a programme of professional development through out the whole program.

The major aim of the scheme is to provide professionals with the opportunity to enhance knowledge and skills in their given sector, and to have catalytic effects on their workplaces. The scheme is funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and aims to provide talented and motivated professionals with the opportunity to enhance knowledge and skills in their given sector.

This year, there are several fellowships being offered offered under the following themes.

  1. Science and technology for development
  2. Strengthening health systems and capacity
  3. Promoting global prosperity
  4. Strengthening global peace, security and governance
  5. Strengthening resilience and response to crises
  6. Access, inclusion and opportunity

Benefits


Successful applicants turned fellows will receive the following benefits during throughout the program.

  • Selected fellows will receive payment for return airfare from from their home countries to the UK and back.
  • You will receive a monthly stipend worth £2,057 for the duration of the award for fellows hosted at organizations outside London.
  • For applicants who will be hosted at organizations in the London metropolitan area, he stipend will be worth worth £2,553 per month.
  • Fellows with disabilities will be eligible for additional financial support after their needs are assessed
  • You will receive an arrival allowance worth up to £1,56.60 to help you settle in and facilitate acquisition of warm clothing.
  • Fellows will be eligible for a travel allowance worth up to £1,000 to attend conferences and other programme related events.
  • A flat rate contribution of maximum £3,000 will be available to fellows for short courses and conferences including visits to other UK organizations.

Eligibility


To be eligible for the fellows program, you must fulfill the following criteria

  • You must be a citizen of a Commonwealth country or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person
  • Applicants must currently be employed and will be returning to their current positions upon completion of the fellowship
  • You must be a permanent resident of a Commonwealth Country.
  • Eligible candidates are those who have never undertaken a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship within the last five years.
  • Fellows must not be seeking to undertake an academic programme of research or study in the UK.
  • You should have at least five years of work experience either full-time, or equivalent part-time.
  • You should be available to undertake the Fellowship for the whole period reserved for the fellowship

Application


Applications for the Commonwealth Professional Fellowships are completed online via the CSC application portal. You will have to create a new account and complete your profile first, before you submit your application.

For a complete application, you will be requested to complete the following information.

  • You must complete information regarding your Undergraduate and Postgraduate University education.
  • Applicants must provide a list of up to 10 publications, awards and prizes if applicable.
  • Detailed profile about your employment history and relevance of each job title held, to the programme.
  • You will be requested to submit a statement of purpose explaining the relevance of your work experience to the programme themes.
  • Applicants will also provide a Development impact statement divided in 4 parts namely:
    • Relevance of proposed fellowship
    • Application of skills gained during the fellowship
    • Expectations and outcomes of the fellowship
    • Impact of your work
