Applications for the EPFL School of Life Sciences Summer Research Program are now open. The Summer School is hosted annually at EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne/ École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne), attracting a magnitude of international students. This two (2) months summer program will run from July 7 to August 28, 2025.Programme participants will have the opportunity to engage in Cutting-edge research ranging from engineering to quantitative biology at the shores of Lake Geneva, throughout the program

The EPFL School of Life Sciences Summer Research Program is dedicated to Both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students with excellent grades and a passion for learning and discovery in their field of study. Bachelors’ degree students must have completed at least 2 years of their degree and Master’s degree students must currently be in their first year.

This programme is open to international bachelor and master’s students. For a duration of eight weeks, programme participants will of immerse them selves in Intensive research and lab work. Applicants will join a research group will have the opportunity to experience what it means to be part of the thriving science community in Switzerland. Applicants must be international students doing their degrees in the fields of biology, biophysics, chemistry, bioengineering, bioinformatics, quantitative biology and related fields.

Benefits


Program Stipends

  • Selected students will receive a stipend worth CHF 3,600 for the two-month period. This amount is intended to cover heir housing and living costs.
  • The organizers will reserve housing for all participants, which will be paid for out of the stipends beforehand.

Housing During the Summer programme

  • Accepted participants will be housed together either in Lausanne or in Geneva. The housing location will depend on lab assignment.
  • You will be housed either in a single rooms or double rooms with a share a kitchen and bathroom facilities.

Travel Arrangements

  • The program will cover most of the travel costs for your travel to and from Switzerland.
  • You will be reimbursed for up to CHF 1,000 for overseas flights and CHF 500 for shorter distances

Visa Issues

  • Applicants who need a visa to enter Switzerland will receive assistance to get a visa

Eligibility


Applicants for the program must meet the following conditions

  • The Summer Research Program (SRP) is open to international students enrolled in both Bachelor’s as well as master’s degree programme
  • Bachelor’s degree students must have completed at least two years of their degree programme at the time of application
  • Master’s degree students are expected to be in their first year at at the time of application
  • Applicants must be enrolled in degree programmes in the fields of biology, biophysics, chemistry, bioengineering, bioinformatics, quantitative biology and related fields.
  • In case you just completed your Bachelor’s degree and not yet but planning to enroll for a Master’s program, you may as well apply
  • SRP is very competitive is a very competitive programme, only students with excellent grades will be selected.
  • Applicants must have achieved a grade equivalent to a minimum of GPA of 3.75/4.0 grade or higher
  • There is no English language requirement since the programme organizers trust students to manage the program in English, however, you may be requested to take a zoom/skype call to prove your proficiency.

Application


Applications for the program are submitted online using the portal provided by the programme organizers. The application must be completed in one go, there is no opportunity to save and come back to the application. Therefore, prepare all you application information in advance.

Along wit the information competed in your application form, you will also be requested to submit support documents in order to complete yo application. Here below is a list of the required documents

  • You must submit a recent CV of around 1-2 pages (if you wish to write a Europass CV, see instructions here).
  • Submit a well written motivation letter worth a maximum of 750 words
  • Applicants must submit their latest University transcripts and grade sheets clearly displaying the current grades
  • Select and explain your preferred lab choices in around 2-3 sentences for each lab choice.
  • Request and submit 2 (two) letters of recommendation to support your application.
