Austrian Government OeAD Ernst Mach Follow-up Grants 2019

The Ernst Mach Grant programme is named after the famous Austrian physicist and philosopher Ernst Mach (1838-1916). The grant programme is financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF). Students and young researchers from foreign universities are invited to apply for this grant to come to Austria for a research or a study stay.

Ernst Mach Grant – worldwide

The Ernst Mach Grant worldwide is targeted at young researchers from all disciplines and countries (except Austria) who wish to pursue a research project in Austria.

  • Target group: young researchers from all disciplines and countries (except Austria)
  • Duration: 1 to 9 months
  • Age limit: 35 years

Ernst Mach Grant for studying at an Austrian University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule)

This programme is aimed at students from non-European universities who wish to spend a semester or two at an Austrian University of Applied Sciences (‘Fachhochschule’).

  • Target group: undergraduates and graduates from non-European universities
  • Target institution: all Austrian Universities of Applied Sciences (‘Fachhochschulen’, see www.fachhochschulen.ac.at)
  • Duration: 4 to 10 months
  • Age limit: 35 years

Ernst Mach Follow-Up Grant

The Ernst Mach Follow-Up Grant is aimed at postdocs from non-European developing countries who are former OeAD scholarship holders. The grant is intended to support the applicant’s scientific carrier and to further and deepen the cooperation with Austrian higher education institutions and universities.

  • Target group: Post-doctoral researchers and lecturers from non-European developing countries, who research and/or teach at higher education institutions or universities and have already received a grant administered by the OeAD-GmbH in the past. At the beginning of the grant period, at least 5 years must have passed since the last funded research visit to Austria.
  • Duration: 1 to 3 months
  • Age limit: 50 years

Ernst Mach Grant – Eurasia-Pacific Uninet

The Ernst Mach Grant – Eurasia-Pacific Uninet is aimed at postgraduates and postdocs from China and Mongolia who want to do a research project in Austria.

  1. Target group: postgraduates pursuing a doctoral/PhD programme at one of EPU’s member institutions in China or Mongolia and post docs pursuing academic work at one of EPU’s member institutions in China or Mongolia.
  2. Duration: 1 to 9 months
  3. Age limit: 35 years

Ernst Mach Grant – ASEA-Uninet

The Ernst Mach Grant ASEA-UNINET is open to graduates,  postgraduates and postdocs from  Indonesia, Thailand, or Vietnam in all fields of study who want to study or do a research project in Austria.

  • Target group: graduates of artistic fields for a study visit in the field of music; postgraduates doing a doctoral/PhD programme in Indonesia, Thailand, or Vietnam; postgraduates who want to do a doctoral/PhD programme in Austria and fulfill the requirements for admission; postdocs who are involved in teaching and research at a university in Indonesia, Thailand, or Vietnam.
  • Age limit: 35 years for graduates and postgraduates, 45 years for postdocs (at the time of the application)
  • Duration: graduates, post docs: 1 to 9 months; postgraduates: max. 36 months
